What matters is not what happens to you, but rather, what you do next
I was an execuitive member of the IEEE Carleton Student Branch throughout the 2017-2018 academic year. I organized outreach events in order to recruit volunteers and executives for the branch. I also managed and communicated with the volunteers to ensure smooth operations of the club.
I am currently a volunteer with the Ottawa2017 bureau, which is organizing a variety of events in Ottawa during 2017 to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. I've worked as a volunteer with RedBull Crashed Ice as an Ambulatory Information Agent, where I greeted visitors and answered any questions. I also worked as a ticket attendant scanning tickets for fans for the Juno Awards. Currently, I am scheduled to work for the Grey Cup Festival as a 50/50 seller.
I was involved in organizing an MLH (Major League Hacking) hackathon as one of two sponsorship coordinators. My role included advocating this event to potential sponsors to sponsor the hackathon. I answered any questions or concerns that they had in the lead up to the event. I was also the liaison between those sponsrs and the organizing team. For a first time event, 6 sponsors sponsored the event, which had over 200 attendees from across Ontario and Quebec.
I was the SPAC 2017 Outreach Co-Coordinator. SPAC is a formal networking event, where it allows students and potential employeers an opportunity to network and socialize. I was one of the outreach coordinators for this event. I promoted this event to different patrons (Organizations) for them to come to the event. I was the contact between those patrons and the organizing team. This event had 125 students from Carleton University, University of Ottawa and Algonquin College, and 13 different patrons from the Otttawa region attend the event.
Starting university can be a challenge, especially in a new city. I was a frosh orientation facilitator in 2015 and 2016 where I acted as a leader and ambassador to the university and the Faculty of Engineering and Design. I helped and guided groups of 25 incoming first year students through leadership activites.
I was the Computer Systems engineering councillior on the CSES student council during the 2015/2016 school year. My role included attending the student council and faculty meetings as a representive of the stream. I was there to represent the students' opinions on course selection and society decisions.
I was on the 2015 Relay For Life organizing committee at Carleton University, as a member of the Entertainment and Logisitics team. I was in charge of getting equipment such as tables, chairs and a stage for the event. The event fundraised over $100,000 for cancer research.
I was proudly the chairperson of the 2014 Relay For Life at my high school in 2014. I helped and assisted a 26 person committee in organizing a 12 hour fundraiser with over 350 participants to raise funds for cancer research. I was the contact between school administration and the committee. The event raised over $57,000.
In my first leadership experience, I was the head organizier for an Olympic-themed fundraiser. I successfully organized a 200 person viewing party for an Olympic telecast. I budgeted carefully as there were food and networking expenses. The fundraiser was sucessful in raising $300 for cancer research.
